LWGQ Oxygen Gas Turbine Flow Meter; 316L oil-free build instrument body with display head

LWGQ oxygen turbine for custody-grade volumetric billing on medical-gas distribution, industrial-gas vendor delivery, and steel + glass furnace enrichment. 316L body with factory oil-free build (specified at quote; buyer arranges ASTM G93 / ISO 15001 certification with a notified body). T+P compensation outputs corrected volume on the 4-20 mA loop. 1:30 turndown captures off-peak draw; dual Ex d + Ex ia covers general and classified zones.

Benefits

  • Custody-grade ±0.5 % of rate: factory K-factor for fair internal cost-allocation and vendor-to-customer billing.
  • Oil-free build for O₂ service: factory degreasing of wetted parts (specified at quote); buyer arranges ISO 15001 cert with notified body.
  • 316L wetted parts: corrosion-resistant for medical-gas distribution and industrial pure-oxygen service.
  • T+P compensation built-in: corrected Nm³ on the 4-20 mA loop, no external multivariable.
  • Dual hazardous-area: Ex d II CT6 Gb + Ex ia II CT6 Ga for general and classified zones.
  • Multi-output: pulse, 4-20 mA, RS-485 Modbus, HART, GPRS / 4G for SCADA and remote billing.
  • Lead time 5–7 business days from the factory.

Typical applications

Installation

Five install rules for the LWGQ oxygen turbine.

  1. Maintain oxygen-clean handling from receipt through install The factory ships the meter degreased and bagged. Do not break the bag until install; do not contaminate gaskets, bolts, or mating flanges with hydrocarbon grease. Use only oxygen-service-rated thread sealant on flange bolts.
  2. Filter and isolation valves upstream and downstream Install a gas filter upstream of the meter and isolation valves on both sides for service maintenance. Never connect the filter directly to the meter inlet flange; debris damages the rotor bearing and shifts the K-factor.
  3. Horizontal install with the housing arrow aligned to flow The LWGQ supports horizontal install only; vertical mount is not permitted. The flow direction arrow on the housing must match line flow.
  4. Maintain ≥ 3 DN upstream and ≥ 1 DN downstream straight pipe The integrated upstream flow conditioner accepts the 3 DN minimum upstream of any elbow or valve, and 1 DN minimum downstream. Tighter installations distort the velocity profile and bias the K-factor low.
  5. Earth-ground the housing on a separate ground line External-power builds require reliable earth grounding, but the meter ground must NOT share with the high-voltage system. During pipe work never bond welding-system ground to the meter ground; transient currents damage the pulse pickup.

Frequently asked questions

How does an oxygen gas turbine flow meter work, and is it custody-grade?+
The LWGQ oxygen turbine measures volumetric gas flow through a free-spinning rotor in the pipe bore. Oxygen passes through an integrated upstream flow conditioner, the rotor blades intercept the conditioned flow at a fixed angle, and a magnetic pickup reads pulses from a co-rotating signal wheel. Pulse frequency is proportional to volumetric flow via the calibrated K-factor. Built-in temperature and pressure compensation outputs corrected volume in Nm³/h on the 4-20 mA loop. Each meter ships with a factory K-factor calibration cert, ±0.5 % of rate option, lockable totalizer, and audit-trail logger; the four practices needed for custody-grade volumetric billing.
Is the factory certified to ASTM G93 or ISO 15001 for oxygen-clean preparation?+
No. The factory provides an oil-free build; degreasing of wetted parts to remove hydrocarbon residue per ASTM G93 method; specified at quote on this 316L body. ProFlow Meters does NOT hold a third-party ISO 15001 or ASTM G93 certification. Buyers who need a formal oxygen-cleanliness certificate arrange that with a notified body or an accredited oxygen-service shop, working from the oil-free build the factory ships. State the cleanliness level (e.g. CGA G-4.1 Type II) and witness requirements at quote so the build sheet captures the right degrease procedure and the right packaging.
When to pick the oxygen turbine over the oxygen thermal-mass meter?+
Pick the LWGQ oxygen turbine when the application is custody-grade volumetric billing; medical-gas manifold sub-measurement, industrial-gas vendor-to-customer fence billing, or furnace-enrichment cost-allocation per heat. The ±0.5 % of rate accuracy range and T+P compensation give the corrected Nm³ needed for invoice or cost-allocation. Pick the oxygen TMF (thermal-mass) when the application is general industrial O2 service; welding-shop manifold, water-treatment ozone feed, lab gas; where direct mass output and the 1:1200 wide turndown matter more than custody accuracy. Mass-flow direct output is TMF; volumetric custody-grade output is LWGQ.
Can the LWGQ measure cryogenic liquid oxygen (LOX) on the vaporizer feed?+
No. The LWGQ is rated for dry-gas service only; medium temperature −25 to +80 °C and single-phase gaseous oxygen above the vaporizer outlet. Cryogenic liquid oxygen (LOX) at −183 °C in the supply tank or the vaporizer-feed line is out of binding and must go to a Coriolis or a cryogenic-rated mass-flow meter. Install the LWGQ downstream of the vaporizer, after the gas has warmed to ambient and stabilized at distribution pressure. The 316L body and oil-free build still apply; the medium-temperature spec is the binding limit.
What pipe sizes, pressure classes, and hazardous-area options are supported?+
The LWGQ oxygen build covers DN50 to DN150 (2″ to 6″) on the standard run, which spans hospital ward manifolds, industrial-gas vendor fence meters, and most furnace-enrichment headers. Pressure classes run 1.6 to 10 MPa metric or ANSI 150 LB to 600 LB; cover bulk-O2 tank outlet pressure (typically 1.4 to 2.0 MPa) and high-pressure cylinder-manifold service. Hazardous-area options are Ex d II CT6 Gb (flameproof, Zone 1) for general industrial service and Ex ia II CT6 Ga (intrinsically safe) for classified-area medical-gas plants. IP65 or IP66 ingress is selectable at order.
What is the lead time and what certifications ship standard?+
Standard lead time is 5 to 7 business days from order confirmation, factory direct. Each meter ships with an ISO 9001 calibration certificate listing the K-factor, calibrated DN, and tested flow range for that serial. The 316L body is built with factory oil-free preparation for oxygen service (specified at quote). Hazardous-area certification options are Ex d II CT6 Gb (flameproof, Zone 1) plus Ex ia II CT6 Ga (intrinsically safe). EMC compliance to the EU Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014/30/EU (Annex II) ships standard, with IP65 and IP66 ingress ratings selectable at order. Buyers needing ISO 15001 oxygen-cleanliness certification arrange that with a notified body.
