The Hydrogen Swirl Flow Meter measures low-density gases including pure hydrogen on PEM electrolyser feeds, refinery sub-meters, and laboratory test rigs. The LUXB precession swirl principle handles low-density gas where a vortex sensor would lose signal.
316L stainless wetted parts cover standard service. The 3D+2D straight-pipe install fits tight skids. CNEX Ex d IIC T6 Gb available on every configuration.
Benefits
- Low-density linearity: LUXB precession measures H₂ at ~1/14 air density; where Karman vortex shedding goes noisy and collapses at low-flow.
- ±0.5 % of rate: standard hydrogen build delivers ±0.5 % across 1:30 turndown, fitting electrolyser stack metering and refinery sub-billing.
- 3D / 2D straight run: 3× DN upstream / 2× DN downstream vs vortex 10D / 5D; decisive retrofit advantage on a crowded electrolyser skid.
- Built-in T+P compensation: integrated RTD + pressure transducer output Nm³/h directly on 4-20 mA, no external multivariable transmitter.
- 316L or Hastelloy C wetted parts: 316L ships standard for pure-H₂ (PEM/alkaline); Hastelloy C for H₂S-bearing refinery streams.
- Hazardous-area certification: CNEX Ex d IIC T6 Gb (Zone 1, gas group IIC) optional; IP65/IP66/IP67 + EMC 2014/30/EU standard.
- Lead time: every configuration ships in 5–7 business days from factory.

Typical applications
PEM Electrolyser Output
Measures high-purity H₂ leaving the proton-exchange-membrane stack, sized for variable green-H₂ plant output.
Alkaline Electrolyser Output
Alkaline (KOH) plants downstream of mist-coalescer and dryer. DN50–DN150 typical; Hastelloy C for trace KOH carry-over.
Refinery H₂ Sub-Metering
Net H₂ from reformer/SMR to hydrocrackers/hydrotreaters. T+P outputs Nm³/h to DCS; Hastelloy C for H₂S recycle.
Fuel-Cell Test Rig & HRS Inlet
Anode supply on PEM/SOFC/MCFC test stands; HRS compressor-inlet metering feeding dispensing totalizer to station SCADA.

Installation
Five rules keep the LUXB on-spec.
- Send gas service and operating range at order time Factory K-factor depends on medium (PEM/alkaline/refinery/fuel-cell) and on pressure/temperature.
- Respect 3D upstream + 2D downstream Same numbers apply to straight pipe, 90° elbow, concentric reducer/expander.
- Specify wetted parts at order time 316L standard for pure H₂ (PEM/alkaline); Hastelloy C for H₂S-bearing service.
- Wire only the loop you need T+P read on-board; field wiring is 4-20 mA (or RS485/HART) only to DCS.
- Follow CNEX Ex d wiring rules Do not modify the Ex d circuit, components, or type of explosion protection.
