CNG Mass Flow Meter
Custody Coriolis for CNG Refueling Station Dispenser and Mother-Daughter Trade Transfer
±0.1 % custody / ±0.2 % standard rate options
DN8 to DN15 threaded UNF
Working pressure 20 MPa standard / 25 MPa custody / 35 MPa custom
- 9/16-18 UNF and 13/16-16 UNF industry-standard threaded process connections
- Direct mass measurement at dispenser pressure; no T+P correction loop
- Ex d [ia] IIC T6 Gb + IP67 hazardous-area certification standard

CNG Coriolis for refueling station dispenser custody, mother-daughter station trade-transfer metering, and compressor outlet flow. Shares the high-pressure threaded CMASS hardware with the hydrogen counterpart; 9/16-18 UNF and 13/16-16 UNF threaded connections, working pressure to 25 MPa, ±0.1 % custody accuracy option. Direct mass flow output at dispenser pressure removes the T+P correction loop. Lead time 5–7 business days from the factory.
Benefits
- 9/16-18 UNF + 13/16-16 UNF threaded connections: standard CNG dispenser fittings, drop-in for industry-standard dispenser housings.
- Direct mass measurement: Coriolis output is mass-direct at dispenser pressure; no separate T+P correction loop.
- Working pressure up to 25 MPa: covers CNG dispenser service (20 MPa standard) and mother-daughter trade transfer (25 MPa custody).
- ±0.1 % custody option: factory K-factor for trade-transfer billing and inter-utility reconciliation.
- Ex d [ia] IIC T6 Gb dual hazardous-area: flameproof + intrinsically safe combined for dispenser cabinet zones.
- Dual-pulse output: one channel to the billing system, one to the prover station for periodic verification.
- Lead time 5–7 business days from the factory with calibration on order build.

Typical applications
Four CNG applications where the small-bore CMASS Coriolis is the standard pick over a turbine alternative.
CNG refueling station dispenser custody
20 to 25 MPa CNG dispenser cabinet; ±0.1 % rate for per-dispense billing accuracy; Ex d [ia] for the dispenser enclosure.
Mother-daughter station trade transfer
Custody boundary between mother and daughter stations for inter-utility billing. Dual-pulse output for prover-station verification + audit-trail logger.
Virtual-pipeline CNG trailer fill billing
CNG transported by trailer to remote sites without pipeline access. Fill-side custody-grade meter at the trailer loading point.
Compressor station outlet metering
CNG production accounting at the compressor outlet on gas-utility or industrial CNG production sites. Direct mass at compressor outlet pressure.

Installation
Five install rules for the CMASS Coriolis on CNG dispenser and trade-transfer service.
- Torque the UNF threaded fittings per dispenser spec The 9/16-18 UNF and 13/16-16 UNF threaded process connections need controlled torque per the CNG dispenser OEM spec. Over-torque distorts the sensor tube and shifts the zero point; under-torque leaks at dispenser pressure. Use a calibrated torque wrench and follow the dispenser integrator’s torque table.
- No upstream straight-pipe run required The Coriolis principle is independent of velocity profile, so the CMASS sensor needs no upstream or downstream straight-pipe like a turbine or vortex meter does. Mount directly downstream of the dispenser solenoid or upstream of the nozzle hose; whichever fits the dispenser cabinet layout.
- Fix pipe support on both sides of the sensor The vibrating tube is sensitive to external pipe vibration from the CNG compressor or dispenser solenoid cycling. Add pipe brackets at fixed steel or dispenser cabinet structure close to the sensor process connections. On high-vibration runs, isolate with flexible high-pressure hose.
- Gas-clean handling from receipt CNG pipeline supply must be dry and clean to dispenser inlet spec. Pipeline-grade methane is normally dry; check for any condensate at the compressor knockout pot before commissioning. Any liquid carry-over during start-up biases the zero point; run a zero-correction cycle after first commissioning with valves closed and the sensor at process temperature.
- Earth-ground the sensor housing separate from welding-system The sensor housing needs reliable earth grounding with cross-section ≥ 1 mm². Never bond welding-system ground to the meter ground during pipe work; transient currents damage the pickup coils and the transmitter input stage.
