Installation

Key install requirements. Full datasheet on request.

  • Run pipe full at the meter; pressurised pump-discharge or condenser-return leg only
  • Install upstream strainer; slow-fill at first commissioning to avoid dry-rotor shock
  • Maintain ≥ 10 D upstream and ≥ 5 D downstream straight pipe
  • Vertical installs flow upward only; pipe arrow aligns with line flow
  • Inspect impeller every 6 months; check K-factor against calibration certificate

Frequently asked questions

What is a water turbine flow meter and how does it work?+
A water turbine flow meter measures volumetric flow through a free-spinning rotor. The LWGY covers Line sizes 1/2″ to 8″ (DN15 to DN200) for cooling water, DI / RO / USP-grade water, boiler feedwater, and aerospace coolant service. Pressure up to 25 MPa; 3.6 V lithium battery option for remote stations.
When does turbine beat electromagnetic for water service?+
Turbine is the practical pick for low-conductivity water below the EMF 5 µS/cm floor. Deionized water, RO permeate, USP-grade purified water, and treated boiler feedwater all sit out of EMF reach but inside the LWGY range. Choose the LEA electromagnetic water flow meter for conductive municipal water, wastewater, and process water with debris.
What water service falls outside the LWGY range?+
Municipal mains and bronze-body utility flow measurement; US market runs on bronze or cast-iron bodies that the LWGY range does not produce; go to legacy utility-meter vendors. Wastewater and process water with suspended solids damage the rotor; go to electromagnetic (LEA) with polyurethane or ceramic liner. Steam; go to LUGB vortex.
What pipe sizes and pressure classes fit cooling water and boiler feedwater?+
DN15 to DN50 covers small chiller branches, lab DI water, and pharmaceutical USP utility. DN65 to DN150 covers cooling-tower return, chilled-water mains, and condenser approach loops. DN200 covers large chiller-loop primary mains and power-plant feedwater branches. Pressure up to 25 MPa for boiler feedwater service. +/- 0.5% of rate supports utility sub-measurement and ISO 50001 reporting.
How does the lithium battery option work for remote pump stations?+
The 3.6 V lithium battery delivers 5-year typical service life at 0.3 mA standby on remote cooling-tower nodes, off-grid pump stations, and rural water-pumping installations. The integrated transmitter powers a local LCD display plus 4-20 mA / pulse / RS-485 / GPRS output for SCADA reporting. Battery is field-swappable on routine maintenance.
How does pulse output integrate with chiller-loop and SCADA controllers?+
The 3-wire pulse output is frequency-proportional to flow with the calibrated K-factor on each meter’s certificate. Building automation systems (Siemens Desigo, Trane Tracer, Johnson Metasys) accept the K-factor and convert pulses to gallons or cubic meters for tenant sub-measurement. RS-485 Modbus and HART are also available.
What is the lead time and what certifications ship standard?+
Lead time is 5–7 business days from order confirmation, factory direct. Each meter ships with an ISO 9001 calibration certificate listing K-factor, calibrated DN, and tested flow range. EMC 2014/30/EU and IP65 / IP66 / IP67 are selectable. JB/T9246-2016 is the underlying standard. Ex d certification is not relevant since water is non-flammable.
