Natural Gas Roots Flow Meter
Positive-Displacement Custody Billing on Low-Flow Gas Distribution
Accuracy ±0.5 % / ±1.0 % of rate options
DN25 to DN150 across G16 to G1000 flow ranges (G-class = EN 1359 / EN 12480 designated Qmax)
1:30 turndown; low-flow accurate where turbines fade
- Twin-lobe Roots PD principle; fixed displacement per rotation, holds accuracy at the low-flow tail
- 3.6 V lithium battery + 4G wireless option for unmanned AMR on residential and remote fence meters
- Ex ia IIC T6 Ga (intrinsically safe) + IP65 + ISO 9001 cal cert with every meter
Clean dry natural-gas distribution custody. Twin-lobe Roots rotor pair in an aluminium-alloy casing displaces a fixed volume per rotation; accuracy holds across a 1:30 turndown down to the residential billing tail. Ex ia IIC T6 Ga and IP65 ship standard; the 3.6 V lithium battery plus 4G option supports unmanned AMR. Raw biogas, wet gas, and cryogenic LNG are out of scope; go to LUXB swirl or Cryogenic Coriolis instead.
Benefits
- Low-flow accurate to 1:30 turndown: positive-displacement principle holds ±0.5 % at the residential billing tail where turbines fade.
- Battery + 4G AMR ready: 3.6 V lithium pack supports multi-year unmanned billing on remote residential and fence meters.
- Ex ia IIC T6 Ga standard: intrinsically safe certification covers Zone 1 regulator stations without flameproof rework.
- G16 to G1000 production range: ten G-classes from DN25 small-commercial up to DN150 cluster sub-distribution.
- Seven output options: 3-wire pulse, battery-pulse, 3-wire 4-20 mA, 2-wire 4-20 mA, RS-485 Modbus, HART, and 4G wireless; matches utility Automated Meter Reading (AMR) and SCADA integrations.
- T+P compensation built-in: corrected Nm³/h on the output channel for billing reconciliation at reference conditions.
- Lead time 5–7 business days from the factory with ISO 9001 calibration certificate.

Typical applications
Four city-gas and town-gas custody applications where Roots PD is the standard pick over turbine.
City-gas residential billing
DN25 / DN40 small-commercial meters on residential mains. G16 / G25 covers 1 to 40 m³/h at 0.6 MPa with battery AMR.
Town-gas regulator station
Secondary regulator station feeding clusters. G100 to G250 at 1.0 to 1.6 MPa; HART or RS-485 to the SCADA cabinet.
Industrial-park tenant fence-billing
Per-tenant fence meter on park sub-distribution. G65 / G100 captures intermittent boiler and process draw with ±0.5 % custody.
Off-peak utility AMR endpoint
Remote distribution-tail meter on unmanned billing. 3.6 V battery + 4G uplink runs multi-year; low-flow tail captured.

Installation
Five install rules for the LQ Roots meter on natural-gas distribution service.
- Filter upstream of every meter Roots is particulate-sensitive. Fit a sized gas filter; leave one DN between filter outlet and meter inlet flange.
- Regulator upstream stabilizes inlet Locate the meter downstream of the pressure regulator so inlet pressure stays inside the G-class range.
- Never install at a pipe low point Roots cannot tolerate liquid carryover. Route a condensate trap upstream if condensate is possible.
- Avoid pulsation source on the inlet Roots reads volume per rotation; line pulsation distorts the count. Add an accumulator if pulsation is unavoidable.
- Flow arrow aligned to line direction The arrow on the casing must match line flow direction; horizontal and vertical mounts are both supported.
