Precision Handheld Ultrasonic Flow Meter

The Precision Handheld Ultrasonic Flow Meter is a transit-time field kit for commissioning verification, audit spot-check, and ISO-traceable cross-check of fixed primary meters. External clamp-on install; no pipe cut, no shutdown. ±0.5 % of reading at 0.5 to 5 m/s. P6 grade covers DN25-DN2000 with 2.8-inch IPS LCD and 0.20 % repeatability; P8 grade covers DN25-DN5000 with 3.5-inch IPS LCD and 0.15 % repeatability. Modbus RTU, 4-20 mA, OCT pulse. 24 V DC rechargeable. 5–7 business days.

Benefits

  • ±0.5 % of rate, ISO 9001 cal cert in the kit. Tight enough to cite on commissioning handover, ISO 50001 audit, district-heat warranty walks, and disputed-billing reconciliation. Tighter than the standard portable’s ±1.0 %.
  • P6 or P8 grade; pick by pipe range and repeatability need. P6: up to DN2000, 0.20 % repeatability. P8: up to DN5000, 0.15 % repeatability with 3.5-inch IPS for outdoor field-service readability.
  • External clamp-on install, no pipe cut, no shutdown. Coupling gel + stainless straps; ~30 to 60 minutes per pipe. Same physics as fixed clamp-on; portable form factor.
  • IP68 sensor head, IP54 main unit. Sensor head tolerates submersion at the install point; main unit tolerates field-service rain and splash without ingress.
  • 24 V DC rechargeable with universal 90-260 V AC dock. Full-day service on battery; overnight recharge. Modbus RTU + 4-20 mA + OCT pulse. Carry case included. 5–7 business days.

Installation rules.

  1. 10D upstream, 5D downstream straight-pipe rule. Pick the longest available straight run at the audit point.
  2. Prep the host-pipe outer surface. Wipe paint, rust, and insulation off the transducer footprint. Apply coupling gel; secure with stainless straps at the specified spacing.
  3. Verify 100 % pipe-fill. Air pockets falsify the signal; closed loops need a vent on the loop high point upstream of the audit point.
  4. Check battery state and cal-cert serial at the start of each walk. Log the cal-cert serial on the audit record; kit ships with traceability back to ISO 9001 reference master.
  5. Recharge overnight on the universal mains dock. 90 to 260 V AC, no rewiring at international sites.

Frequently asked questions

When does precision handheld beat the standard portable?+
Three cases. First, commissioning validation: handover walks on inline meters where the inspector cites ±0.5 % spot-check to clear the install. The standard portable at ±1.0 % cannot tighten the same way. Second, ISO 50001 audit and district-heat warranty: audit reports cite the field-meter accuracy range; tighter is defensible against challenge. Third, disputed billing reconciliation: when a primary inline meter is suspected to drift, a ±0.5 % handheld cross-check produces evidence the customer accepts. For routine service-call quick-check or contractor visits where ±1.0 % is fine, go to the standard portable instead; it is roughly half the price.
P6 vs P8 grade; which one?+
The two grades share the ±0.5 % of rate accuracy spec but differ on repeatability, display size, and maximum pipe range. P6 grade handles DN25 to DN2000 with a 2.8-inch IPS LCD 320 x 240 and 0.20 % repeatability. P8 grade handles DN25 to DN5000 with a 3.5-inch IPS LCD 480 x 320 and 0.15 % repeatability. Pick P6 for HVAC, district-heat, and process service up to DN2000 where 0.20 % repeatability is sufficient. Pick P8 for utility trunk lines, large-bore municipal water audit, and primary district-cooling headers where DN exceeds 2000 or 0.15 % repeatability is needed.
Does this unit include BTU calorimetry?+
No. The precision handheld is a flow-side instrument only. For HVAC + district-heat audit where energy (kWh / MJ / BTU) is part of the field record, pair the handheld output through Modbus into a separate BTU calculator, or go to the standard portable which includes a PT100 clamp-on temperature pair for on-board calorimetry, or use the inline BTU meter on a fixed install. Tighter flow-side accuracy on the precision handheld doesn’t compensate for missing the temperature pair if BTU is what the audit cites.
How long does the battery last on a service-day walk?+
The Li-ion battery pack delivers a full-day service walk at typical 4-20 mA output mode; sized for commissioning, audit, and reconciliation field visits where the meter logs continuously for 6 to 10 hours then returns to the charging dock overnight. The dock takes universal mains 90 to 260 V AC. The unit can also operate on 24 V DC bench supply for desk verification or extended logging beyond battery hold; specify the bench supply at order.
What ships in the kit and what is the lead time?+
The kit ships with the main unit (P6 or P8 grade), the matched transducer pair, ultrasonic coupling gel, stainless mounting straps for the pipe size range, signal cable, 24 V DC mains charging dock with universal 90-260 V AC input, ISO 9001 calibration certificate (serial number, tested velocity range, traceability note), and carry case. Lead time is 5 to 7 business days from the factory. Optional add-on: 0.5 deg C reference thermometer for separate temperature record on audit walks.
