Integral orifice flow meter with factory-mated primary element, 3-valve impulse manifold, and pre-assembled smart DP transmitter

Primary + 3-valve manifold + DP transmitter, factory-mated

Single packing slip · one warranty point · zero field zero-cal

The integral orifice flow meter (also called an integrated DP flow meter) is the factory-mated build of the differential-pressure series; primary element, DP transmitter, 3-valve manifold, and impulse tubing ship pre-assembled on one packing slip. DN15 to DN1500, PN42 MPa, ±0.5 % of flow per ISO 5167 / GB/T 2624 wet-cal. Factory sets the K-factor and zero/span before shipment: pipe it in, energize the 4-20 mA HART loop, and read flow. Lead time 5–7 business days.

Benefits

  • Single-PO sourcing: primary, transmitter, manifold, and tubing on one packing slip with one warranty point of contact.
  • Factory K-factor + zero/span: wet-flow cal on the loop before shipment removes four to eight hours of field commissioning per loop.
  • ±0.5 % of flow per ISO 5167 / GB/T 2624: primary-element wet-cal accuracy on the standard custody and billing practice recognises.
  • DN15 to DN1500 size span: small-bore process-gas branches up to mid-size steam sub-meters and packaged OEM skids.
  • PN0.6 to PN42 MPa pressure range: low-pressure branches through high-pressure steam mains and hydrocarbon service.
  • 4-20 mA HART loop-powered transmitter: 24 VDC two-wire, IP65, Ex d IIC T6 Gb optional, RS-485 Modbus optional.
  • Lead time 5–7 business days from the factory.

Typical applications

Four applications where one-PO sourcing and factory zero/span beat the bare-primary route.

⚙

Small-bore process gas

Instrument air, nitrogen blanket, or fuel-gas branch on a DN25-DN100 line where adding one DP loop does not justify a Rosemount transmitter parts shelf and a trained DP technician.

🔥

Steam sub-measurement for utilities billing

Boiler-house steam header to building or process unit; 5-valve manifold and seal pots ship in the build so condensate columns and blow-down are commissioning-ready on day one.

💉

Batch chemical dosing

Reactor or blending-line dose loop where the factory K-factor and ISO 5167 wet-cal give the batch record a traceable accuracy spec without standing up a transmitter calibration cart.

🛠

OEM packaged-skid integration

Steam-injection, fuel-gas conditioning, or chemical-dosing skid where footprint, single-vendor sourcing, and one warranty point matter more than transmitter-head flexibility.

Installation

Five rules for clean DP measurement on a factory-mated assembly.

  1. Honor the upstream straight-pipe length Allow 22D upstream of a single elbow at β = 0.5, 44D at β = 0.75; 5D downstream. Two elbows in plane need 30D; out of plane need 50D. Reducers and valves need 16D-18D. Use a flow conditioner if the pipework cannot deliver the required run.
  2. Mount horizontal; slope impulse tubing downward for steam Horizontal suits liquid and gas, transmitter above the pipe for gas or below for liquid. For steam, mount horizontally and slope impulse tubing 1:10 downward so seal-pot condensate columns form symmetrically. Mark flow direction before bolting up.
  3. Open isolation valves, close the equalizer, then power the loop The 3-valve manifold ships with isolation valves closed and the equalizing valve open. After install, open both isolation valves slowly, close the equalizing valve, then energize the 24 VDC loop. Factory zero/span holds.
  4. Bleed impulse lines before reading flow For liquid service, vent high-side and low-side from the top until clean stream runs; trapped air shifts ΔP by tens of kPa. For gas service, drain condensate from the low points. For steam, fill seal-pot columns with cool condensate before energizing.
  5. Route 4-20 mA HART wiring separate from VFD and motor cables Keep signal wiring at least 300 mm from motor-drive cables to avoid induced noise on the loop; shield grounded at the DCS / PLC end only. For Ex d IIC T6 Gb installs, follow the local Zone 1 code for cable-gland and conduit sealing.

Frequently asked questions

What does "integral orifice" mean here, and how does it differ from a bare orifice plate?+
An integral orifice flow meter ships as one factory-mated assembly: the orifice primary element, the DP transmitter, the 3-valve manifold, and the short impulse tubing arrive on a single packing slip, already piped together and already zero/span calibrated on the factory wet-flow loop. A bare orifice plate, by contrast, ships as a passive primary element only; the buyer specifies and procures a separate Rosemount 3051, Yokogawa EJA, or Honeywell ST3000 DP transmitter, runs the impulse lines on site, mounts the manifold, and performs field zero-cal during commissioning. The integral build trades transmitter flexibility for single-PO sourcing, faster commissioning, and one warranty point of contact. It is the right choice for a plant that does not already operate a DP-transmitter parts shelf and does not employ a trained DP-transmitter calibration technician on staff.
I already run Rosemount 3051 transmitters on plant. Should I still buy the integral version?+
Probably not. If you already operate a Rosemount 3051, Yokogawa EJA, or Honeywell ST3000 base across the plant, your maintenance team carries spare transmitters, calibration carts, and trained technicians who can field-zero a DP transmitter in 20 minutes. In that case the bare-primary route is the better fit: buy the orifice plate, nozzle, venturi, or annubar element on its own and pair it with a transmitter from your existing parts shelf. The cross-link is the orifice plate flow meter model on the differential-pressure hub. The integral build exists for buyers who do NOT have that infrastructure: small-bore process-gas users, OEM skid builders specifying for a packaged unit, and mid-size plants where adding one DP loop does not justify standing up a Rosemount asset base.
What is the real trade-off vs the bare-primary option, in dollars and in commissioning hours?+
The integral version typically saves 1500 to 3000 US dollars on the transmitter line item compared with sourcing a premium Rosemount 3051 plus 3-valve manifold separately, and it removes roughly four to eight hours of field commissioning work per loop (impulse-line bleed, manifold tuning, transmitter-to-primary span match, first-zero-cal). The trade-off is transmitter flexibility: you cannot drop in your preferred Rosemount or Yokogawa head later without re-piping the manifold, and the factory-paired transmitter is a 4-20 mA HART loop with RS-485 Modbus optional only, not a fieldbus node. If a specific fieldbus protocol is part of the spec, go to the bare-primary orifice plate option and bring your own head.
Does the factory K-factor still apply if I change the process fluid later?+
The factory K-factor and ISO 5167 / GB/T 2624 wet-cal are valid for the fluid, density, and temperature you specified on the order. If you change service later, for example moving the loop from instrument air to natural gas, or from water to a glycol-water mix, the discharge coefficient and the expansion factor change, and the flow reading drifts unless you re-size. The good news is that the primary element is mechanical and unchanged. You send the operating P, T, and fluid composition to engineering; we return the corrected square-root parameters and either reprogram the transmitter HART configuration or ship a replacement orifice plate at the right beta ratio. The transmitter itself does not need to come back to the factory; it is reprogrammable in the field over HART.
What ships in the box, what is the lead time, and what cert paperwork is included?+
Lead time is 5–7 business days from the factory. The assembly ships with the orifice primary element, the factory-paired DP transmitter mounted on the element, a 3-valve manifold (5-valve manifold optional), short impulse tubing, isolation valves, the factory ISO 5167 / GB/T 2624 wet-flow calibration certificate, the ISO 9001 quality cert, a mill cert traceable to the heat number for the wetted-metal element, and the CNEX Ex d IIC T6 Gb cert sheet if the hazardous-area transmitter housing was ordered. EMC 2014/30/EU Annex II compliance ships standard with each transmitter. The factory holds the ISO 5167 / GB/T 2624 wet-cal cert and the ISO 9001 quality cert only; other custody, sanitary, or EU-directive cert packages are not shipped from this factory and should not be specified on the PO.
