Wastewater Flow Meter
Municipal Wastewater & Treatment Build
Accuracy of ±0.5% of rate
Conductivity threshold ≥ 5 µS/cm
Velocity range 0.3 to 15 m/s
- Line sizes DN10 to DN3000
- Soft rubber liner (E) standard for sewage, PTFE (C) for chemical wastewater
- 316L stainless electrode standard, IP68 submersible buried-chamber option

The Wastewater EMF measures municipal sewage, industrial wastewater, lift-station discharge, and plant influent/effluent across DN10–DN3000 by Faraday’s law. Soft rubber liner tolerates abrasive solids and weak acids.
Soft rubber + 316L electrode covers sewage at PN10–PN40; hard rubber for grit-heavy, PTFE for pH outside 4–11. IP68 sensor + IP65 converter for buried chambers and lift stations. CNEX Ex d optional for digester/biogas-adjacent service. Lead time 5–7 days.
Benefits
- 5D/2D straight-pipe: fits tight retrofit chambers and lift-station skids.
- ±0.5 % of rate at 0.3–15 m/s for inflow billing and discharge-permit reporting.
- Soft rubber (E) liner: raw sewage, weak acid/alkali, up to +80 °C without nitrile swell.
- IP68 sensor + IP65 converter for buried valve chambers, flooded lift stations.
- Bi-directional with separate totalizers for storm-overflow and bypass-loop monitoring.
- CNEX Ex d optional for digester/biogas; IP65/67/68 + EMC 2014/30/EU standard. Lead time 5–7 days.
Typical applications
Four wastewater-service zones where electromagnetic measurement is the standard specification over ultrasonic, weir, and mechanical alternatives.
Municipal sewage collection
Trunk lines, main collectors, force-main discharges; no-orifice EMF for fibrous and partial-fill streams.
Treatment plant influent & effluent
Activated-sludge influent, post-clarifier effluent, sludge recycle, final discharge for permit reporting.
Lift station discharge
Fully-flooded pump discharge; IP68 sits in chambers without derating; soft rubber handles grit raw sewage.
Anaerobic digester & biogas
Primary sludge feed, recirculation loops with H₂S carryover; Ex d for digester-room installs.

Installation
Five install rules. DN size, liner material, and ingress rating lock at the factory; get them right at quote time.
- Mount in a flooded chamber or lift-station discharge skid with vertical upward flow Lift-station discharge is the canonical fully-flooded wastewater installation per the install guidance; the pump pushes raw sewage through a known-wetted pipe at well-defined velocity. For valve chambers and underground vaults, the IP68 sensor + IP65 converter combination handles continuous submerged service to 10 m water depth without enclosure derating. If horizontal mounting is the only site option, electrodes must sit at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions of the bore.
- Specify IP68 sensor + IP65 converter at order for buried and chamber-mount installations The factory ships matched cabling at the order length to span the burial depth or chamber elevation. The remote-mount converter housing stays at IP65 above grade for technician access without disturbing the buried sensor.
- Run a 24 V DC loop for buried sensors, with battery / solar option on remote distribution The 24 V DC loop avoids the 220 V AC isolation requirements for buried equipment and supports battery backup or solar power on remote distribution sites. For lift-station installations on grid power, 220 V AC is acceptable.
- Wire empty-pipe detection to SCADA for gravity sewer mains On gravity-flow trunks where partial-fill is intermittent, wire the empty-pipe detection circuit to SCADA so the totalizer pauses on dry-pipe events. This prevents false totalized volume during overnight low-flow and pump-cycle starvation that would otherwise corrupt monthly discharge-permit reports.
- Specify CNEX Ex d for installations adjacent to anaerobic-digester biogas headers Ex d hazardous-area certification covers digester-room and biogas-adjacent installations without separate enclosure work. Ground all components per the install requirements (≤10 Ω, not shared with other equipment ground); use shielded signal cable ≤30 m, never parallel with power in the same conduit.
