Ultrasonic BTU Meter
Heat Energy Meter For HVAC & District Heating
DN15 to DN300, kWh / MJ / BTU output
Transit-time flow + PT100 supply & return pair
Modbus, M-BUS, BACnet, KNX
- CT-1 clamp-on PT100 pair retrofits without pipe cut. 0.1 deg C resolution, −40 to +160 deg C.
- 3 to 90 deg C delta-T covers HVAC chilled, condenser, DHW, and district-heat.
- AC mains, 24 V DC, or Li-SOCl₂ battery for sealed-pit installs.
The Ultrasonic BTU Meter pairs transit-time flow with a PT100 supply/return pair; firmware returns continuous energy in kWh, MJ, BTU, or kJ. DN15 to DN300, medium to +95 °C or +160 °C HT. CT-1 clamp-on retrofits without a pipe cut; thermowell pair is the permanent alternative. 4-20 mA, Modbus RTU, M-BUS EN 13757; BACnet/KNX via gateway. AC mains / DC bus / Li-SOCl₂ battery. 5–7 business days; ISO 9001 + EMC 2014/30/EU. EN 1434, MID MI-004, OIML R75 buyer-arranged.
Benefits
- On-board firmware solves the energy integral. Transit-time flow + PT100 returns continuous energy. Output kWh, MJ, BTU, or kJ; no external integrator.
- CT-1 clamp-on PT100 pair retrofits without a pipe cut. DN50, 100 ohm class 0.8, −40 to +160 °C, 0.1 °C. Thermowell pair is the permanent alternative.
- Delta-T 3 to 90 °C. HVAC chilled 4–12 K, condenser 8–15 K, DHW 30–50 K, district-heat 40–90 K. Accuracy tightens at higher delta-T.
- Modbus RTU native; BACnet, KNX, LonWorks via gateway; M-BUS EN 13757 direct. Map exposes energy rate, flow, supply/return, totalizers. Pulse for legacy.
- AC 90-260 V, DC 8-36 V, or Li-SOCl2 battery. Mains suits plant rooms; battery suits sealed-pit (3-year on hourly poll).
- IP65 wall-mount housing. HVAC plant rooms, district-heat substations, mechanical rooms.
- 5–7 business days. Ships with ISO 9001 cal cert, EMC 2014/30/EU, transducer pair, PT100 sensors, 30 m cable, pre-configured Modbus.

Applications
HVAC chilled-water tenant chargeback
Chilled-water primary sub-measurement at tenant entry. kWh chargeback into the BMS via Modbus or M-BUS. 4–12 K delta-T. CT-1 clamp-on retrofits without shutdown.
DHW circulation and tenant hot-water billing
Residential and commercial DHW sub-measurement, 30–50 K delta-T. M-BUS EN 13757 for EU billing. Pulse output integrates with legacy heat-cost-allocator registers.
District-heat substation primary metering
Substation primary entry meter, 40–90 K high-temp service. HT version to +160 °C. EN 1434, MID MI-004, OIML R75 buyer-arranged.
ISO 50001 and LEED energy reporting
BTU sub-measurement for ISO 50001 EnMS, LEED, and ASHRAE 90.1 reporting. Modbus and BACnet feed the building-energy dashboard for audit-trail records.

Installation rules.
- Mount the flow transducer on the longest straight pipe run. 10D upstream, 5D downstream, 30D after a pump.
- Pair supply and return PT100 sensors on the same loop. Supply upstream of the heat exchanger; return downstream.
- Insulate the PT100 sensor and 0.5 m of pipe each side. Heat loss biases the reading low 0.2–0.5 °C; at 4 K HVAC that shifts energy 5–10 %.
- Verify pipe-fill at commissioning and on annual walks. Pipe must stay 100 % liquid-filled; vent the loop high point upstream of the meter.
- Configure energy units, register map, and slave address at commissioning. Factory pre-configures from BMS spec; field edits handle late changes. Record serial and slave address in commissioning log.
